Can Fat Freezing Get Rid of Cellulite? What It Can and Cannot Treat

Short answer: fat freezing can reduce a localised pocket of subcutaneous fat, but it is not a direct treatment for the fibrous structure that creates cellulite dimpling. If cellulite texture is your main concern, a cellulite-focused treatment plan is usually more relevant than cryolipolysis alone.
What cellulite actually is
Cellulite is not simply excess fat. Its dimpled appearance is linked to the way skin, connective tissue and underlying fat interact. This is why cellulite can be visible on people of many different body sizes, including people who are lean and physically active.
Age, genetics, hormones, skin structure and fat distribution can all influence how noticeable cellulite appears. A 2023 review in the medical literature describes cellulite as a complex, multifactorial cosmetic condition and notes that treatment responses can vary considerably.
How fat freezing works
Fat freezing, or cryolipolysis, uses controlled cooling to target subcutaneous fat cells in a defined area. The 3D-lipo UltimatePro system used at 3D Lipo London is designed for localised fat pockets such as the abdomen, flanks, chin, upper arms and inner thighs. It is a body-contouring treatment, not a weight-loss treatment.
The manufacturer describes controlled cooling of the treatment area followed by gradual processing of affected fat cells over the following weeks and months. Suitability, applicator choice and the number of sessions depend on the size and shape of the fat pocket and the client's medical history.
Can reducing a fat pocket improve the look of cellulite?
Sometimes a change in the volume beneath the skin may alter how an area looks, but that is not the same as treating cellulite itself. Cryolipolysis does not directly release the fibrous septae associated with cellulite dimpling, so a meaningful cellulite improvement should not be promised from fat freezing alone.
- Fat pocket: fat freezing may be appropriate when the main issue is localised pinchable fat.
- Dimpling or orange-peel texture: a cellulite-focused assessment is more appropriate.
- Loose skin: radiofrequency skin-tightening may be considered separately when laxity is part of the concern.
What treatments are more directly aimed at cellulite?
3D Lipo London offers beauty-led treatments that are specifically used for cellulite appearance and skin texture. Our shockwave treatment uses the radial pressure-wave technology on the 3D-lipo UltimatePro, while radiofrequency skin tightening can be used where skin laxity is also part of the concern. Manual wood therapy is another option for clients who prefer massage-based body-contouring support.
Published reviews of cellulite treatments show that evidence varies between modalities and that improvements are not guaranteed or necessarily permanent. This is why we prefer to assess the actual concern rather than promise that one treatment will "remove cellulite".
Can fat freezing and cellulite treatments be combined?
They may be planned as separate parts of a body-contouring programme when a client has both a localised fat pocket and visible cellulite. They do not have to be performed simply because both concerns are present, and the timing should be based on suitability and the area being treated.
For example, somebody with a pinchable lower-abdomen fat pocket may be a candidate for cryolipolysis, while cellulite on the thighs may be better assessed for shockwave, RF or another cellulite-focused option. Treating each concern for what it actually is generally makes more sense than expecting one technology to do everything.
Who may be suitable for fat freezing?
Fat freezing is generally considered for adults who are close to a stable weight and have a localised fat pocket that can be safely treated with the applicator. It is not suitable for everyone. Medical history, medication, previous surgery, circulation or cold-related conditions and the condition of the treatment area should be discussed before treatment.
A £30 booking deposit secures the consultation. The deposit is fully redeemable against treatment and refundable after you attend if you decide not to proceed. Please give at least 72 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. A no-show loses the £30 deposit and rebooking requires a new £30 deposit. Late arrival may shorten the appointment.
Bottom line
Fat freezing should be chosen for localised fat reduction, not sold as a cellulite cure. If fat and cellulite are both present, they can be assessed as separate concerns and a treatment plan can be built around the areas that matter most to you.

Fat freezing and cellulite are different concerns
Cryolipolysis is designed to reduce a localised layer of subcutaneous fat; cellulite is related to the interaction of skin, connective tissue and underlying fat. Reducing a fat pocket does not reliably remove cellulite, and the two concerns should be assessed separately.
If dimpling or uneven texture is the main concern, see our cellulite treatment page. For localised fat reduction, the Fat Freezing London guide explains suitability and realistic expectations.
